Chair Feliz on felony assault weapon types and patterns
Feliz asks whether specific weapon types stand out in felony assaults, such as stabbings or slashings. Gerber says what stands out is the volume of domestic violence (40%) and assaults on police/public employees (combined ~50%), rather than specific weapon types.
On the issue of felony assaults, are there any specific types of assaults that stand out?
For example, stabbings, slashings, or using a knife versus other dangerous instruments or anything that stands out from the felony assaults?
So what stands out, as I said earlier, was the domestic violence.
It's about 40%.
And if you combine our domestic violence and our assaults on police officers and other public service employees, that's about 50% of our felony assault.
So that does stick out for sure.
Anything about those incidents, though, that stands out?
For example, using a knife versus using, I don't know, any weapon.
I know using a dangerous instrument is part of the rule.
What sticks out is really the volume.
That's there we have.
Okay.
