Chair Feliz on repeat offender percentage and per-borough officer counts
Feliz asks what percentage of felony assaults involve repeat offenders—Hout says approximately 20% are by those arrested two or more times. Feliz then asks for per-borough officer counts; Hout provides breakdowns showing roughly equal deployment across boroughs.
Thank you.
Thank you so much, Councilmember.
Next, we'll hear from Councilmember Nurse, but briefly.
So you mentioned that repeat offenders have played a big role with relation to the numbers related to felony assaults.
About what percent of felony assaults would you say are due to repeat offenders?
Sorry, just one second, Chair.
I want to give you that answer.
So those arrested two or more times is approximately 20% of our felony assaults.
20% of the felony assaults are individuals arrested two more times.
That's the issue.
Okay.
And also, we've been talking a lot about Bronx and cop count.
About how many police officers do we have per borough?
Could you give us a breakdown of that?
So per borough approximately, I'll go down, I'll start with Manhattan South, this is as of May 5th.
So 1,257 in Manhattan South.
1,573 in Manhattan North, 1,722 in the Bronx South, 1,791 in the Bronx North, 1,224 in Queens South, 1,259 in Queens North,
I'm sorry, Brooklyn South was 1,722.
Brooklyn North, 1,791.
Bronx North, 1,259.
Bronx South, 1,361.
Queens North, 1,163.
Queens South, 1,122.
Staten Island, 543.
How many in the Bronx again?
What's the total in the Bronx?
Bronx North, 1259.
Bronx South, 1361.
Okay, so it seems like every borough has somewhat equal amount of police officers.
Okay.
