Morano introduces first public panel: Dr. Nelson and Anthony Passaro
Morano introduces the first public panel: Dr. Mecca Nelson, a Gold Star spouse and advocate for White Star families, and Anthony Passaro, father of a veteran who died by suicide. Morano praises Dr. Nelson's advocacy work.
I'll now call the first panel.
First, Anthony Passaro, and second, Dr.
Mecca Nelson.
I not only want to thank Dr.
Nelson and Mr.
Piccaro for coming here today and for their patience, but I recognize that, and I've had the opportunity to get to meet and speak with Dr.
Nelson many times, but I recognize that being here on a Friday afternoon is not only something that can be inconvenient,
but it can be extraordinarily difficult both emotionally and in some cases physically and logistically in order to be here.
And I think the perspective that you're adding to today's hearing, not only on today's topic, but on the resolution that we're considering, is very valuable.
And Dr.
Nelson, I know you specifically have been a real warrior in the issue of White Star veteran recognition
and have probably done more than any single New Yorker, certainly any private citizen.
to further the urgent need for recognition of White Star families.
Thank you in advance for not only being here, but for your work and for your testimony.
So, Dr.
Nelson, we'll begin with you.
