New York City Council · Sep 18, 2026 · starts 0:55:35 · 53 sec

Wong asks about city-funded mental health programs for veterans and families. Orlando describes the Valone Initiative through VFW, which helps veterans file benefits claims related to mental health struggles. Wong requests data on how many people were helped.

Phil Wong

Are there any programs that the city council or the administration funds

Phil Wong

that work on mental health services for veterans or their families.

Nicole Orlando

Thank you for that question.

Nicole Orlando

What we would say is that with the City Council discretionary funding, I think through the Valone initiative is one where veterans are able to then file for their benefits that in relation to any mental health struggles that they will be

Nicole Orlando

experiencing, as well as since it is ran through the VFW, it also brings that camaraderie with a veteran service organization.

Nicole Orlando

So although it may be indirectly, it does facilitate that support for a veteran community that is much needed.

Phil Wong

Do you have data on how many people were helped by these programs?

Nicole Orlando

For the level on initiative.

Nicole Orlando

Yes.

Nicole Orlando

So we have that in our local 215 reporting.

Nicole Orlando

So I'd be happy to follow up with it.

Phil Wong

Okay.

Phil Wong

All right.

Phil Wong

Please do.

Phil Wong

Please do.

Phil Wong

Thank you.

Phil Wong

Thank you, Jim.
