Milagros Franco testifies for BCID on disability enrollment
Milagros Franco of the Brooklyn Center for Independence of the Disabled, with 19 years of DRIE/SCRIE application experience, urges automatic enrollment, public campaigns, DOF outreach to independent living centers, and increased MOPD funding, and expresses solidarity with EMS workers on ambulance wait times.
Good afternoon, my name is Milagros Franco.
I'm a housing advocate at the Brooklyn Center for the Independence of the Disabled.
I have been doing dream screen applications for about 19 years.
I really want you guys to approve everything you can to keep our seniors and people with disabilities in the housing.
I'm just gonna read off four points.
That I want to make sure.
As you guys have heard throughout the day, the city must centralize or coordinate the proper enrollment of tenants.
A lot of people don't know about screen injury.
I'm always preaching about it because that's the easiest thing I can do for somebody.
The city must do an automatic enrollment for tenants.
It should be included with the HRA website.
There should be more public campaigns promoting the programs.
The Department of Finance should go to the independent living centers that cater to people with disabilities and seniors.
That's where a lot of our folks come to for information.
And the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities, they need more funding in order to
to support the community-based agencies like BCID.
And I'm right there with the fire people because I waited an hour for an ambulance when I was hurt.
So I'm right there with the fire people as well.
Thank you.
Thank you for your time and attention to this urgent matter.
Thank you.
I also have the testimony, a full testimony to submit.
Great.
Thank you.
Next.
