Dinowitz reiterates need for teacher training and principal guidance before 2027
Dinowitz says the Portrait starts in 2027-28, teachers and principals need training and direction, and asks about structural supports. He also plugs the upcoming civics hearing and Seal of Civic Readiness.
I want to reiterate that if this is starting in the 27-28 school year, the portrait, again, we have a school year that's going to start in less than a year.
Teachers need to be trained.
Principals need to know what they're doing without this sort of stuff.
I'm going to ask about leveraging your assets, but I
Do you want to make a plug?
Is that next month we are having a hearing along with the Committee on Higher Education specifically on civics in our schools, including the Seal of Civic Readiness.
What's that?
We're excited.
You're excited.
I'm excited.
First Deputy Chancellor, you'll probably be there too.
That was, I said we see you every week.
And I do want to plug also, or just remind everyone that I think two years ago when I was chair of higher ed, we had a hearing on the seal of biliteracy.
And after that, CUNY started giving college credit.
For students who successfully completed the seal and had it on their report card.
I say all that, one, to say that this council stands ready to work in partnership with you on these seals, and that we've done it, and I, as a council member and chair, believe in them as what it could bring to the table.
Now that, yeah.
