Dinowitz warns about equity in work-based learning access across neighborhoods
Dinowitz notes that schools near City Hall have industry and government access, while other schools are near a safe injection site or men's shelter. He says equity must account for unequal access to partners and opportunities.
Just one other comment, just something to be very aware of that principals have brought up to me.
Like if you go to a high school around here and you mentioned, you know, leveraging local community.
You know, you're around City Hall.
You're around the World Trade Center.
Like there's all like in those two places alone, there's a lot of industry and government access.
I was at an outward bound school last year.
You know what's around the corner from them?
A safe injection site.
Is there another school in the Bronx?
You know what's around the corner from them?
It's like a single adult men's shelter.
That is what is around other schools.
So as we use the words equity, I want us to remember that certain neighborhoods don't have the same access to industry and government and everything else that others do.
