New York City Council · Sep 22, 2026 · starts 2:40:21 · 2 min 22 sec

Alec Vanderbilt says he has been trying to get a CityFHEPS voucher for over nine months and found Homebase staff unfamiliar with required documents. He says HRA helped but he is still waiting, and describes dangerous conditions in his building.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

Hello, my name is Alec Vanderbilt.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

I've been nine months and three weeks trying to get the City Phelps voucher, but it started with the tenant situation, so I went to Homebase.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

And I took Homebase, everything they require, you know, your HPD form saying you're in danger in the building that you live in, everything that they required.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

And the staff that came to me and everyone was super kind, but none of them even knew what the documents were.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

And they were like, well, you got to bring this, you got to bring this, you got to bring this.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

I said, this is all, this is it right here.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

And they still didn't comprehend the documentation that was put before them.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

So I went back to HRA.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

They took care of the situation.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

I'm still waiting for the city voucher.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

Thank God to Aaron Dalton and the committee of the Urban Justice Center and also the NYU Judeo-Bizzen Committee.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

Garbage.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

It shouldn't even exist.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

We shouldn't even be working with them.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

The committees are all doing all that they can to help everyone.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

Even the city is doing the best they can.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

It seems like someone is just in the middle of the mail and just causing all the problems for everyone back and forth.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

In the building that I live in, there was 26 people.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

Now there's only nine.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

All of them have accidentally died, and only two had some medical care, some medical problems.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

Everyone there is in danger.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

Mandami put our building on the list because it's on the media right now where I live.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

Thanks to his aid and help.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

And the city of Albs voucher is needed.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

I know that.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

That's why I'm still trying to get it.

Member of the Public - Alec Vanderbilt

That's basically all I have to say.
