Chair Hudson and witnesses discuss CityFHEPS success and staffing turnover
Hudson thanks Michael and DeNovo, agrees CityFHEPS is a great program that needs to work better, and asks DeNovo about case manager turnover. DeNovo says she does not know why but a supervisor eventually helped move the case forward.
Absolutely, and thank you both for your testimony.
And, you know, I think most would absolutely agree with you that CityFEPS does work, and that's why, you know, we just want it to work a little bit better,
a little bit more efficiently, so that more people can reap the benefits of such a great program.
And that the people who are recipients of the voucher, you know, we can reduce some of the hurdles and the burdens that people are experiencing.
But I would absolutely agree with you that it is a great program, one that we need to fund more robustly.
So don't disagree with you there.
And then I did want to just ask very quickly, the staffing issues, you said that the application had gone through a number of case managers.
Is it because they left?
Do you know?
I have no idea, unfortunately.
I certainly wonder these things, too.
I will say...
There is one person who I think is a supervisor who has really, really gone to bat.
And I hate doing the like, oh, I'm going to call the person at the top.
But like, that's the only reason that this has moved at all is that eventually we get frustrated.
I'm like, I'm going to call Tracy Ann and then she fixes it.
Yeah.
No, and I ask because I think, you know, particularly with home base, but so many of these different organizations and agencies and subcontractors and contractors and so forth, staffing.
is an issue.
And whether it's turnover or, you know, low pay, you know, inadequate training or people who are because of the low pay are leaving quickly.
And then there's a knowledge gap, you know, like you said, people who are starting up that don't even know, you know, necessarily what they're doing.
Yeah.
And so, okay.
Thank you.
Thank you both for your testimony.
I just want to say I'm grateful for the program.
Yes.
Thank you.
Very grateful.
Thank you.
For everything the city council has done to expand the program.
I am frustrated at the way that's gone, but I know how hard you fought for it.
Thank you.
Thank you so much.
