Chair Hudson questions Judita Francis on six-month wait for apartment approval
Hudson asks Francis about her apartment status after securing it in April. Francis says her housing specialist had to review the apartment again, the bathroom lacked a refrigerator and stove, and she is still waiting for checks after repeated rent reviews.
I do have a couple of questions very quickly.
For Ms.
Francis, you said you secured an apartment in April.
of this year but have not yet been able to move in?
That is correct.
And do you know the status, the current status?
Because that's almost six months.
Yes, it is actually six months.
The apartment's still available?
So yes, I spoke to the housing specialist Friday of last week and he said that he had to review it again.
He had to view the apartment again because there's some ARC apartment review checklist.
Because of the time frame, he had to review it again.
He said everything was fine.
The reason why I couldn't move initially is because when we went to view the apartment, though I was awarded it, there were problems in the bathroom, and they had no refrigerator or stove.
So I was approved to move in, but I couldn't move in.
And then it took about a month, and then I had problems with HRA.
So it compounded.
So, yes, it's still available, they say, but now they're saying they're waiting for checks.
And the four months was rent reviews, rent reviews, rent reviews, and just waiting.
So it's been waiting.
Applaud and I champion for those that have moved out that have kind of got the process after me, but I'm still waiting with my child to move out of where we are.
Right.
Okay.
Well, I do want to acknowledge that the commissioner has stayed to hear testimony, which I'm very grateful for.
There's always somebody here from DSS, but I do think it's, and sometimes the commissioner goes and watches virtually from her office.
but I do think it's meaningful to have her here.
So just so you know, none of what you say here on record falls on deaf ears, but particularly today, it's being heard directly by the commissioner in real time.
So thank you.
