Ms. Hines says public housing is full of mold, asbestos, and lead and has failed residents
Ms. Hines says she is an elder and Brooklyn resident who believes government has failed residents' education, homes, and businesses. She says public housing is full of mold, asbestos, and lead, and that NYCHA's interiors are unhealthy and making children sick.
I'm Hines, and I'm an elder, as most of us elders sitting here.
You don't have your youth.
But we know.
We know the state.
We know the country.
And we know that our leaders...
Have failed our education, our homes, and they don't allow us businesses.
They even fail our temples.
I sit in a temple where I live in Brooklyn.
And while I'm sitting in the temple and enjoying just my peace of mind, I'm leaving my home.
I have peace of mind in the home because I'm by myself.
But...
Since retiring, I thought I was happy while I was working and taking care of my children and so forth.
But as I've been by myself, I find that this country is failing.
Failing the people who have built this country, who have served this country, and who have
It's the USA.
It's our country.
And we are belittled with our education.
We'll belittle with our homes.
We'll belittle with businesses.
When I say belittle, you deny.
This country denies our homes, our business, our education.
For centuries, centuries, centuries of abuse.
And I'm about out.
You know, when I say out, I'm the eldest of my peoples, one of the elders, much older than you two that are sitting at the table and the one who left.
And it has not paced university.
I worked in this community.
You have 30 seconds to wrap up.
I have ran around this neighborhood or the city of New York.
And I tell you, it's sad.
We put you at, we put.
We put you in office and we just don't get, we are under the foot.
We're told that we can't have our homes, we can't have our businesses, we can't have our temples.
We can't have our education.
Do you have anything to say on topic about work orders and public housing?
Public housing has definitely failed.
They told you about public housing.
There's nothing more to say about public housing.
Public housing, they gave you everything that we don't have any service.
Public housing is full of mold, asbestos, and lead.
And they took away whatever.
The best of what we had in New York City housing no longer exists.
I'm talking about material.
For doors, we used to have wood.
We now have paper doors.
We still have mold.
We're full of lead.
We're full of asbestos.
And we're full of mold.
The only thing you can do with nature is take it down.
Thank you.
Thank you for your testimony.
The brick is good.
The brick is good because they repaired that and much of nature.
But the inside is not healthy.
It made us sick.
It made the children sick.
Thank you for your testimony, ma'am.
