Brewer asks Van Auken about Office of Ethnic and Community Media's move to communications
Brewer notes Executive Order 23 gave the mayor's communications office authority over the Office of Ethnic and Community Media without rescinding Executive Order 7, and asks Van Auken to explain what happened to that office; Van Auken confirms it now lives under the communications team and refers further questions there.
Thank you very much.
We've been joined by Council Members Dinowitz and Morano and Felice on Zoom.
And I will call on my colleagues for questions in a minute.
I just, I have a few.
Just to talk a little bit more about mass engagement and the structure.
I know that you have public engagement, faith-based and community partnerships, New York City Service.
I mentioned some of the other ones that you're welcome to include, but I'm interested in ethnic and community media, which I think is now under comms.
And can you just explain, there was an Executive Order 23 in September, recently,
which gave the mayor's office of communications authority over that office, but it did not mention rescinding Executive Order 7.
I mean, that's the office that has a lot of discussion.
Can you?
explain what your office does and then what happened to this office if it's not part of you anymore.
Thank you for that question, Chair.
The Office of Community and Ethnic Media does indeed live under the Mayor's Communication Team and not the Office of Mass Engagement, per the executive order you mentioned.
I don't have many details, and I'm happy to get back to you, but I would refer you to the comms office for further details about the mayor's office of community and ethnic media.
I do know that they have a new executive director who will be starting soon.
