Commissioner Ali details DOC and DOP audit implementation
Commissioner Ali says DOC's Correctional Intelligence Bureau now reviews federal law enforcement requests to identify their purpose and elevate them to the legal division. She also says the Department of Probation reinforced limits on immigration status in pre-sentencing reports and improved detainer reporting.
The Department of Corrections Correction Intelligence Bureau has instituted enhanced review of requests for
from federal law enforcement agencies to clearly identify the purpose of these requests and appropriately elevate to the legal division to ensure that they are not in furtherance of civil immigration enforcement.
The Department of Probation has reinforced through trainings and its academy limitations on inclusion of immigration status
in parts of pre-sentencing investigation reports, which do not require this information under state regulation.
DOP has established a process for regularly submitting reports that document, track, and publicly post a number of detainer requests it receives to strengthen compliance with local laws on reporting.
