Taylor Brown introduces Mayor's Office of LGBTQIA+ Affairs and opposes federal attacks
Taylor Brown gives her pronouns and role as inaugural director of the Mayor's Office of LGBTQIA+ Affairs. She thanks the committees and states the administration opposes federal attacks and is alarmed by private providers caving to pressure.
Good afternoon, my name is Taylor Brown.
I use she, her pronouns.
I serve as the inaugural director of the Mayor's Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual Affairs.
Thank you to Chairs Caban, Narcisse, and Farias, and the members of the Council Committees on Mental Health and Substance Use, Women and Gender Equity, and Hospitals, as well as Public Advocate Williams for holding today's critical hearing.
My office appreciates the Council's attention to gender-affirming care and associated mental health outcomes for transgender and non-binary youth, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to testify on these issues on behalf of the administration.
I would like to begin by unequivocally stating that the administration firmly opposes the federal government's attacks on transgender and non-binary people, and we are deeply alarmed by the ways in which private health care providers in New York City have caved to pressure from the federal government.
New York City is fully committed to continuing to protect, support, and cherish transgender and non-binary New Yorkers of all ages.
Gender-affirming care is a lifeline for many transgender and non-binary young people, and New York City will not leave them without the care that they need.
