Williams speaks personally about joining trans youth advocacy
Williams says he has been public about his journey and speaks to parents who love their children. He warns against using surgery restrictions to take away broader access, compares it to abortion restrictions, and calls for protecting trans youth.
I'd also like to add I have been very, very public about my continuing journey on these issues, and I've done that because I want to make sure people join me.
I am not trans, and I don't have any family members who are.
But I have spoken to parents who love their children like my wife and I love mine.
And I've spoken to mothers who love their child, how my mother loved my sister and I.
And I think it's incumbent upon folks like me to speak out because when my children never replace some issues, I hope they're not fighting alone.
And I hope people join them in making sure that they are protected.
And so I want us to all do the same.
And I don't want people to use surgery, which is the least used.
medical access to take away access from everyone.
I saw that happen with abortion.
Late-term abortions are not very prevalent, but they use that to take away rights from all women.
So let's just make sure that we're really focused on making sure people have what they need to live their best lives historically.
When people don't like folks, when they're biased against folks, they don't disappear.
They're just harmed, and their lives are made to be unnecessarily painful.
So let's reverse that.
Let's make sure that we can have people live, love, and be healthy in their lives just like we'd want anyone else to.
So access to health care would allow us to do that.
So I'm so thankful that we're having this hearing today.
And I'm also always concerned when people are talking more about sports than children who are killing themselves.
And so let's reverse that conversation and make sure that we're protecting everyone.
Thank you.
