Restler discusses human services subcontracting and Intro 834
Restler explains that human service contracts are exempt from MWBE goals but often use for-profit subcontractors that may be MWBEs. He introduces Intro 834 to require reporting on those subcontracts and calls for a pipeline for MWBEs to grow into larger prime contracts.
This issue extends to our human service contracts as well.
Human service contracts are exempt from MWBE goals, but many of these contracts use for-profit subcontractors that may be MWBEs.
For example, consider a nonprofit shelter.
Operators...
A nonprofit shelter operator hires a for-profit firm to deliver food or run security.
I've introduced legislation, Intro 834, which would require reporting on those subcontracts.
I'm hopeful that better reporting on subcontracts
will help us understand the MWBE landscape more broadly and identify more firms that we can support and connect to larger prime contracting opportunities that they may be qualified for.
I hope we hear more today about how the Mondani administration plans to increase MWBE contracting opportunities,
especially through cultivating a pipeline of MWBEs, of successful MWBEs that are already contracting with the city so that they can grow and take on larger and larger contracts.
I'm also keen to learn more about how we can elevate more black and Latino and especially black women and Latina firms to do more business with the city.
