Narcisse asks about uninsured detainees and Medicaid coverage
Narcisse asks about people without medical coverage or paperwork, including TPS recipients. Otonichar says about 85% have Medicaid on release and that Health and Hospitals provides care regardless of ability to pay.
Now, another question I'd be remiss not to ask, how about those folks that don't have no medical coverage and that on the TPS or different reason, they don't have no paperwork and they're not getting insurance in the outside world?
Are you making maximum effort to refer them to a place where they can get support?
Yes.
So about 85% of people in custody, we estimate, will have Medicaid coverage on their release, either because we've helped enroll them or they're previously enrolled.
I think that's where we're incredibly fortunate to have New York City Health and Hospitals in our city because the system provides care to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay.
And that is something that individuals can certainly call Portline, which is the peer staff reentry line, to help get connected there, or they can go into CRAN to get connected.
