Council Member Farías speaks on Resolution 184 for Korean Cultural Awareness Day
Amanda Farías speaks in support of her resolution declaring October 3rd as Korean Cultural Awareness Day, honoring Korea's National Foundation Day and the city's Korean community.
Thank you.
I'm proud to be passing my resolution declaring October 3rd as Korean Cultural Awareness Day annually in New York City.
October 3rd marks Korea's National Foundation Day, meaning opening of heaven.
It honors a founding story passed down through generations and remains a day of shared ancestry and cultural pride.
Nearly 90,000 Korean and Korean American New Yorkers live across our city, and I have consistently championed culturally responsive legislation because the histories and traditions of the communities that shape New York deserve recognition here in the Council.
This resolution gives us an annual opportunity to celebrate Korean heritage and help more New Yorkers understand why October 3rd is so meaningful.
Thank you to Deputy Speaker and Cultural Affairs Committee Chair Dr.
Natasha Williams, Council Members Julie Wan and Linda Lee, and my colleagues who supported and co-sponsored this resolution.
