Council Member Maloney introduces bill on sexual assault prevention at large events
Virginia Maloney introduces legislation requiring large events to designate trained personnel and trauma-informed protocols for sexual harassment and assault prevention and response.
Thank you.
Councilmember Maloney, followed by Kavan.
Thank you, Majority Leader.
I am introducing legislation to strengthen sexual assault prevention and response at large public events across New York City.
My bill would require events with more than 1,000 attendees or 500 when alcohol is being served to designate trained personnel
and establish clear trauma-informed protocols to prevent sexual harassment and assault and have a response when an incident occurs.
If you're bringing thousands of people together for a concert, a festival, or a parade, you need a plan to keep them safe.
I'm also proud to co-
co-sponsor, Councilmember Chanel Thomas-Henry's resolution number 655, calling on FIFA to show us the million bucks promised for hosting the World Cup.
Thank you again to Speaker Menon and my council colleagues for funding Bellevue in my district, supporting psychiatric help,
and again welcome New York City Arts and Education Roundtable, including Ian, who is a talented artist attending High School of Art and Design in my district.
Thank you.
