Council Member Zhuang recognizes Mid-Autumn Festival
Susan Zhuang speaks about the Mid-Autumn Festival, sharing her immigrant experience and the traditions of mooncakes and family reunion, and wishes everyone a happy festival.
Councilmember Zhuang, followed by Hankerson.
Thank you.
Colleagues, today I want to recognize the Middle Autumn Festival, a holiday that means so much to me personally.
I came to America as an immigrant when I was 20 years old, leaving behind my family, my home, everything I know.
I know it feels like missing people you love and to be far away from your home.
For generations, Chinese family have looked up at the moon during the holidays and remember the people they love.
And we also burning fake money to the ancestors.
We share the mooncake.
Because the circle represents family, reunion, and the togetherness, I want to thank Councilmember Phil Wong, brought a lot of mooncake today.
Colleagues, you haven't tried, you should try, but don't eat too much.
New York City is very diverse.
Our differences are what makes us strong.
Every community brings our own traditions, stories, and hope.
And together we make New York City the greatest city in the world.
No matter where you travel, I want to wish everyone a happy Middle Autumn Festival and a happy Moon Festival.
And try some mooncake.
