Stevens advocates for African Immigrant Heritage Month and Bronx contributions
Stevens speaks in support of Resolution 607 declaring September African Immigrant Heritage Month, citing approximately 167,000 African immigrants in New York City and 60,000 in the Bronx. She highlights their contributions to businesses, healthcare, culture, civic life, and the economy, and thanks colleagues for supporting both resolutions.
I'm also proud to support Resolution 607 declaring September as African Immigrant Heritage Month.
New York City is home of approximately 167,000 African immigrants, approximately 60,000 African immigrants living in the Bronx.
And a lot of that is in the West Bronx, I must say.
Their contributions in our neighborhood, businesses, healthcare systems, culture, civic life, and economics are part of the fabric of our city.
Those resolutions remind us that our history is the strongest when we make room to recognize the communities whose stories have too often been overlooked.
I want to thank my colleagues.
For supporting both resolutions, and I look forward to continuing to celebrate the rich culture, history, and contributions that makes New York City great.
Thank you.
