Golia concludes on accessibility and future plans
Golia emphasizes that NYPL's research centers are freely accessible to all New Yorkers. She outlines future plans to expand digital access, improve research experience, and increase preservation efforts, calling for increased investment.
We are proud that our research centers cover such a wide range of cultural, community, academic, and artistic aspects of the human experience.
And while the breadth and depth of our offerings are what often garners attention, what we are most proud of is the fact that they are all freely accessible to New Yorkers of all walks of life.
All of this is only possible because of our expert staff, librarians, technical assistants, curators, and pages who maintain
both the quality and variety of our collections, as well as their accessibility to the public.
In the next five years, we plan to take this commitment even further by extending digital access to our collections, improving the research experience of in-person and online users, doubling down on our preservation
efforts, expanding fellowship opportunities, and reaching the broader public with compelling exhibitions and programs.
The realization of these ambitious goals will not be possible without increased investment in libraries.
We look forward to your continued support to ensure our research libraries remain among the most vital public goods that the city provides.
With my colleagues, we thank you for the opportunity to testify and are happy to answer any questions you might have.
