Pineda discusses fellowships and accessibility
Pineda describes LPA's Dance Research Fellowship and Across the Crowded Room Fellowship. She emphasizes that all materials are accessible to anyone with a free library card and that the library provides welcoming spaces for all New Yorkers.
LPA supports academics and performance alike through fellowship opportunities, like our Dance Research Fellowship, which provides a stipend and dedicated librarian support to dance scholars and performers
seeking to advance their work with topics including dance and democracy, dance and ecology, and the 75th anniversary of the Jerome Robbins Dance Division.
The Across the Crowded Room Fellowship invites new musical theater writers, performers, and directors to come to the library, meet each other, and create a 20-minute musical, often based on library special collections.
Participants receive feedback from industry leaders, and six fellowships have been awarded over the past three years.
Perhaps more important than what we offer is how accessible these offerings are to everyday New Yorkers.
All of these materials and features are part of NYPL's holdings, meaning they are not limited to students.
and researchers.
The only requirement is a library card, which is completely free.
An important part of access is making all New Yorkers feel welcome.
That is why we also provide quiet study areas, desks, power outlets, and computers throughout the building.
Whether sifting through an archive for inspiration, admiring the work of current artists, or simply securing a quiet desk with a power outlet,
the Library for the Performing Arts is where world-class performing arts scholarship and everyday New York life come together on a regular basis.
Thank you for the opportunity to testify.
