Yvette Aguirre testifies on tax haven
Yvette Aguirre testifies about her experience owning a condominium in Puerto Rico and seeing Puerto Ricans bought out by investors. She supports the resolutions, particularly Resolution 372 to repeal Act 22.
So I'm in favor of passing all the resolutions, particularly the 372.
And I just want to speak from my own experience.
I was born in Puerto Rico, and I own a condominium in Puerto Rico on the waterfront.
And when I bought 30 years ago, everybody in the building were Puerto Ricans.
And now you can count the Puerto Ricans in one hand.
You have to state your name for the record.
You can't...
State your name for the record.
Oh, my name is Ivera Aguirre.
Ivera Aguirre.
And now my building is filled with all investors.
And we're all waterfront.
The prices have gone up.
The Puerto Ricans have bought out.
We're all bought out.
And it's a tax haven.
What they're doing is they're buying for the purpose of we can deduct my expenses in Puerto Rico on my U.S.
Taxes.
Right?
Because it's an investment property.
That has taught me, by good accountants, that you can deduct your trips, your food, your taxes, your electricity, your cable.
You can deduct everything by living part-time.
All you have to do is...
do is step into the island twice a year.
And not even for any amount of time.
You just get off the plane.
A lot of them, you get off the plane, I see them for one day, and then I never see them again.
Right?
And so that's what has happened in my area in Isla Verde.
All of them are being bought out by these American, USA investors because it's a tax haven.
And so that is, I think, the reason why they want to keep investing in Puerto Rico and why they want to keep giving up all of our land, because they are controlling the whole system.
Thank you.
