Kim Holland reports 1,512 CUNY undergraduates studied abroad in 49 countries
Holland presents data from fall 2025 through summer 2026: 1,512 undergraduates from 15 campuses studied abroad in 49 countries. She notes 89.1% used CUNY-sponsored programs, most participated in winter or summer sessions, and 28% were community college students.
The following data are based on activity at CUNY's 11 four-year campuses and seven community colleges from fall 2025 through summer 2026.
During this period, 1,512 CUNY undergraduates from 15 campuses studied abroad in 49 countries.
89.1% of these students participated in a program sponsored by a CUNY campus, while 10.9% participated in an independent program.
24.4% of CUNY students who studied abroad participated in a program for one or two semesters, and 75.9% participated in winter and summer intercession programs.
72% of these were students at our four-year campuses, and 28% studied abroad while enrolled at a community college.
During this period, 10 CUNY campuses offered 136 programs in 40 countries, all of which were operated.
Each CUNY campus may develop programs that align with its respective curricula, institutional relationships, and faculty available for in-house program development.
Where appropriate, campuses are encouraged to open their programs to students from other CUNY campuses, and last year, 16.9% of CUNY students who studied abroad did so using ePermit,
CUNY's mechanism for cross-campus registration.
This collaboration among CUNY campuses substantially broadens the scope of programs available to students, not only in terms of geographic location, but also in terms of curricular focus and available terms.
