Stephen Ferst cites affordable programs and work authorization abroad
Ferst points to exchange programs where students pay CUNY tuition and a reopened China program under $10,000 for the semester with room, board, and tuition. He says some countries allow work authorization, which helps students afford going abroad.
Yeah, I can point to a few programs that we have.
Some of them are exchanges that allow students to pay their CUNY tuition and go abroad.
But we also have a program in China, for example, that is now reopened, that is very inexpensive.
It's under $10,000 for the semester, room board tuition included.
And so we work to find affordable programs specifically to allow students with less disposable income to do these types of things.
It's not easy.
It's really hard for these students to...
See themselves abroad and to give up that job, to find things.
Occasionally, we are operating in countries where students are allowed to receive some work authorization.
And that's also sometimes very helpful for students.
In China, they cannot work.
If they do an internship, they can get lunch money and transportation back and forth, which isn't bad.
And other places, you know, in Australia, for example, a student can work.
At a pretty decent rate, but it's hard.
It's recognized it's hard.
