Gutiérrez praises One World Project and raises funding concerns
Gutiérrez thanks Derwin for testifying and says her site visit showed a strong, caring program. She says it is hard to promote universal child care without enough compensated early childhood educators.
Yeah, thank you.
Thank you, Joanne.
I do have a couple of questions.
First, John, I want to thank you for coming because you left your business to come and testify.
And I don't know if you were in the room, but I encouraged our new deputy chancellor to visit and to meet.
I think what I saw on my site visit was just the best example of like a director who cared.
Who cares teachers, who care educators, who care, and parents who, like, know a really good
when they see it.
And you had raised the challenge it is to participate, that you want to be able to open it up to all kids who need it.
And so I second so much of what you raised about what the city should be doing to really compensate.
Folks who want to get into early childhood education.
It's very hard to promote a universal child care program when we currently don't have enough early childhood education teachers to fill those roles
or to inspire people to want to pursue a career in this sector if they don't know that they're going to be compensated.
So thank you so much.
I also just want to highlight for everybody, you operate a wonderful apprenticeship program as well, which I think is...
I think we should be investing more in that with our CBOs because I think it's really special.
So no question, just my love.
Thank you so much and appreciation.
