Honda discusses agency spending and NYPD overtime attribution
Honda says some agency budgets were repurposed and additional funding went to NYSEM for daily operational calls. She says the city is still assessing total World Cup cost and disaggregating NYPD overtime is difficult because it overlapped with other summer events.
And I can add from specific agencies,
Between Parks, DOT, NISM, and a few other agencies, I know that some of standard budget was just repurposed, for example, around programming, can get you those numbers.
But additional funding did go to NISM, which stood up, for example, these daily operational calls throughout the summer to make sure between Knicks Parade, Sailforth 250th, visit of President, you name it, everything went smoothly and we're very proud of the results there.
The note on PD overtime.
So the World Cup was obviously a massive initiative and it stretched across multiple agencies, multiple levels of government and multiple fiscal years.
It also overlapped with the Knicks championship, Sailforth 250th parade, a historic wedding, which sadly I was not invited to, and other regular summer programming.
And so the city is basically still assessing the overall cost of the World Cup itself, and it is somewhat difficult to disaggregate.
But with specific questions about NYPD overtime, I would encourage you to reach out directly to the agency on that.
