Q&A

Thomas-Henry asks about ferry service for 2028 Olympics at Willets Point

New York City Council · Sep 30, 2026 · starts 1:49:04 · 1 min 23 sec

Thomas-Henry notes the 2028 Olympics will overlap with Mets games and the U.S. Open and asks whether EDC is considering a ferry to Willets Point. Kreamer says the ferry was at full capacity during the World Cup and future planning can be discussed.

Shanel Thomas-Henry

Going back into preparation of our next major event, we have, as has been stated, the Olympics coming in 2028.

Shanel Thomas-Henry

And arguably in my district, again, we have Citi Field that has Mets games during that same time.

Shanel Thomas-Henry

USTA is preparing for U.S.

Shanel Thomas-Henry

Open around that time.

Shanel Thomas-Henry

And a host of other things.

Shanel Thomas-Henry

Is EDC looking at a ferry to Willits Point, considering right now the only transportation, consistent transportation in that area is the number seven train that on a good day is overcrowded?

Justin Kreamer

So I will say that we were very proud during the World Cup that the ferry was utilized as much as it was.

Justin Kreamer

It's an important part of the city's overall transportation system.

Justin Kreamer

We had, for the month of June, we were 20% above usage than we were the June before.

Justin Kreamer

The system was largely at full capacity during the World Cup in terms of the number of ferries that we have available.

Justin Kreamer

Future planning discussions, happy to have a follow-up discussion on that.

Justin Kreamer

But specific to the World Cup for this year, we were using every available fair we had.

Shanel Thomas-Henry

I'll call you.

Shanel Thomas-Henry

At this time, I turn it over to Council Member Villas.
