Thomas-Henry notes overlapping events and asks about youth soccer legacy
Thomas-Henry notes the World Cup, Knicks parade, 250th anniversary, and Jay-Z concert all happened in July. She asks whether the city is working on projects to maintain soccer excitement, particularly for youth leagues.
And I did forget one other event because we talked about we were trying to figure out what we can attribute to World Cup.
We had the World Cup starting the 11th, the parade on the 18th, 250th anniversary, and the three-day Jay-Z concert.
So there was a lot happening in July in New York City.
So really looking forward to those numbers.
I have a question from Councilmember Gutierrez.
Is the city working on any projects to maintain the excitement around soccer, particularly for youth leagues?
Many were so involved in the festivities and watch parties.
Plus, we have a new stadium in my district, no doubt.
Feels like maybe the World Cup czar can become the soccer czar for the city.
And I know you still, or just our sports czar in general.
What are you doing, Maya?
