Avilés asks about community engagement for new Bureau
Councilmember Avilés thanks the panel and says Red Hook residents were surprised by the Bureau's creation. She asks how BCR will engage impacted communities and how it will plan its work.
I wanted just to follow up on a couple of things.
In terms of the, I think many folks in Red Hook Your Home community,
We're really happy to hear about this announcement of the creation, and then we're also mystified that they had no idea any of this was coming together.
So I'd love to know what is going to be the planned community engagement around how we call it the Bureau.
What should we call it?
The Bureau.
Will plan its work moving forward?
I think, I mean, you were talking about like what community engagement in terms of like RISE and other reports that we're working on.
Or how this bureau is going to, like what is the vision for the bureau and how does the bureau plan to engage those impacted communities?
Because I will say folks were very surprised to even hear of its creation.
Delighted because as an impacted community, this is, and dealing with the construction of the resiliency project right now and knowing that that project.
Is built for a 10-year flood, not a 100-year, and it's going to be inadequate before we get to the big kahuna anyway.
So this is going to be an ongoing issue for this community that was flooded this weekend.
