Avilés asks how flood barriers will be deployed during storms
Avilés asks whether outside teams or trained community members will deploy barriers. Prabilski says BCR will house its own crews, hired through DEP's apprentice program, to deploy gates and barriers.
I think the other thing I just wanted to ask in terms of the resiliency projects that depend on, you know, deploying the barriers and stuff and as you hire up,
is the intention that there will be a team from outside that comes in during storms to deploy these barriers?
Or is there any thinking about training teams or people of communities that can actually do these that are closer to?
To the barriers themselves.
So the crews that will be deploying the barriers will be a crew housed within BCR.
We've started hiring up through the cities, hiring, right now they're hiring through an apprentice program within DEP.
There's still a number of postings to go, kind of hiring those crews to be brought up to speed over the next year, year and a half on the coastal defense system that includes the walls and
gates and barriers on the east side of Manhattan and then in the ones in Red Hook.
Yeah, so it is, it are outside crews in as much as they're hired by DEP and they will come to the neighborhoods and deploy those gates.
But then how,
Yeah, how you cover such a geographically vast and in some ways transportationally challenged, particularly in a storm area, is a creative element I can't quite wrap my brain around.
