Gennaro asks about codifying BCR within DEP versus separate department
Gennaro asks how codifying BCR within DEP would affect its ability to advocate for resources. DeFalco says DEP wants flexibility and time to see how the expanded bureau operates before supporting codification.
If this bill, meaning the one we're hearing today, were to codify the Bureau within DEP rather than establishing a separate department, how would...
In that effect, the Bureau's ability to advocate for resources or achieve its work.
I think much like whether or not the Bureau becomes a department, we'd like to give ourselves the flexibility.
I think that at the time that there were any conversations about codifying BCR, it was before we had significant resources that this administration has since provided.
So there's no other Bureau within DB that's codified.
I think we'd like to see...
How things go with the amount of infrastructure that's coming online.
We'd like a little bit of time, just being honest, to see how things go, especially as this bureau is going to get significantly larger and what that means and just give ourselves a little bit of flexibility.
But we'd like to, I think, continue those conversations and update the council as our infrastructure is coming online in the next year and as we're making these hires to see if that still makes the most sense.
Yeah, but I think we're going to be moving on this bill.
So I don't know if we have.
Lots and lots of time before we, I mean, we'll talk whatever you want.
We'll talk about whatever you want to talk about, but I don't think we're willing to hang back for a year or so before we advance this.
So I'm just saying.
Fair enough.
We'd still like to continue, I think, to have conversations and update you as more of this infrastructure comes online.
