Gennaro cites precipitation projections and need to codify Bureau
Gennaro cites NPCC projections for increased annual precipitation and argues stronger storms require a city agency or bureau to holistically plan coastal response. He wants to codify the existing Bureau of Coastal Resilience.
High-end estimates for annual precipitation project, and this is NPCC, project an increase of up to 10% in annual precipitation by the 2030s, 14% by the 2050s, and 30%.
30% by 2100.
Stronger and more severe storms like this one, like the one this past weekend, are likely to become increasingly common as time goes on.
We all know that.
This ongoing threat requires a city agency, or in this case, an agency bureau right there.
To holistically plan and manage the city's response.
At this hearing, I'm looking forward to learning about the Bureau's burgeoning role in coastal resilience so that we may codify their important work.
And, you know, it's important to understand that, you know, the Bureau that would be created through this law already exists.
It's not yet codified in law, and so we think it's important to codify it in law so that successive administrations will have no ability to
not continue the work of this important bureau.
I am also looking forward to hearing feedback on the other legislation so that we can ensure that these bills are the best and most effective they can be.
