Cerrone highlights busy summer and value of special events
Cerrone says summer 2026 was exceptionally busy with FIFA World Cup and Sail4th 250 celebrations, plus picnics, concerts, and festivals. He argues special events activate parks and bring New Yorkers outdoors.
As you may be aware, this past summer season was an exceptionally exciting one for NYC Parks, as our beaches, pools, parks, athletic fields, and playgrounds were as busy as they've ever been.
In addition to experiencing once-in-a-lifetime celebrations like the 2026 FIFA World Cup and Sailforth 250, or taking advantage of the free recreational summer programming offered by the agency throughout our parks,
New Yorkers also made the most of our shared public spaces to enjoy family picnics, barbecues, and birthday parties, concerts, festivals, and other special events.
We're very proud of the role that our parks play in the city's cultural landscape.
And we believe that special events are an incredible way to bring New Yorkers out to enjoy their local park, which helps keep those spaces activated and vibrant.
