Hankerson asks about centralizing permits through OTI
Hankerson says CBOs get frustrated by fragmented applications and asks whether Parks has considered working with OTI to centralize them. Cerrone says that conversation has not been initiated but Parks is open to presentations and simplifying some permits.
If you are working with the food element, if you are working with, let's just say, like a mobile vendor, they may already have their DOHMH permitting in place.
They probably do.
And in which case, then it would just be a matter of sharing that documentation with parks as part of the TUA process.
Got it.
Okay.
Thank you for that.
Has the agency considered working with, I want to say it's Do It.
OTI?
Yeah.
To potentially, or to explore ways to maybe centralize everything.
We?
Sorry.
No, no, no, it works.
I've received a number of calls, and since being in this particular role, calls from across the city now from CBOs who
tend to have a difficult time applying for a permit, especially given that they have to go to these different places and locations, and they get frustrated, and then ultimately they just throw up their hands and say, forget it.
And then the community loses out on what I think would be valuable services and or community events because the process seems like it's working against them and not necessarily working for them.
So is that a conversation that has been had or could potentially be had to see if we can kind of centralize this permit process, application process?
Thank you.
Thank you very much for the question.
I don't believe that's a conversation that we've initiated with them yet.
We have focused on a lot of other process improvements.
And I just want to say, first and foremost, if there are CBOs,
council member in your district or in a district of one of your colleagues, we're happy to either in person to give a presentation on the process and have our borough colleagues join us as well.
We're also happy to do that remotely depending on someone's schedule.
We can do that during the day.
We can do that later in the day.
To help walk them through that process.
