Flynn says DOT is implementing fire-safe battery swapping cabinets on sidewalks and plazas, certified to high safety standards, to address lithium-ion battery fire risks.
Along with design interventions, we're also working to address fire risks from micromobility batteries.
We're doing this by implementing fire-safe battery swapping cabinets on public sidewalks and plazas.
These cabinets and the batteries associated with them will be certified to the highest nationally recognized fire safety standard and will include proactive monitoring of battery health along with fire containment features.
Over 100 delivery workers participated in the pilot, and many shared that the new infrastructure and certified batteries gave them peace of mind as they kept their
family and neighbors safe.
