Commissioner Flynn testifies on pre-considered 2587 (tracking unsafe behaviors)
Flynn says DOT is interested in new technologies but wants to hold delivery apps accountable for incentivizing unsafe riding, and defers to DCWP on details.
Next, Pre-Considered 2587, sponsored by Council Member Ressler.
This bill requires the installation of traffic safety tracking technology on the
devices used by delivery workers with a progressive penalty structure.
Safety is our North Star, and we're always interested in exploring new technologies that support our mission, but as previously mentioned, we want to hold delivery apps accountable for incentivizing unsafe riding behavior.
We defer to our sister agency, DCWP, on the details and look forward to future conversations on how best to promote safe riding behavior.
