Council Member Restler says focus should be on regulating corporations
Restler says deliveristas have dangerous jobs and his bills should not unfairly penalize workers, but focus on regulating the giant corporations profiting from them.
Deliveristas have incredibly difficult and dangerous jobs.
Indeed, it's one of the most dangerous jobs in the city of New York.
And we rely heavily on them.
I am committed to making sure that these bills do not unfairly penalize those workers or lead to wrongful deactivation.
My focus, and I believe this committee's focus, is on regulating the giant corporations that are profiting on these workers.
I want to thank my colleagues, especially Chair Abreu, for the hearing today and look forward to a conversation that I hope is productive and leads to a new and better regulatory system for making our streets.
