Jonathan Cohen of JOCO testifies on sidewalk detection and safe bikes
Jonathan Cohen, co-founder of JOCO, supports banning Class 3 e-bikes, the trade-in program, dynamometers, and sidewalk detection technology, and offers to demonstrate their sensor technology.
Thank you.
My name is Jonathan Cohen, and together with my co-founder, also Jonathan Cohen, a bit confusing, we co-founded JoCo here in the best city in the world, in New York City.
You know, as Ben mentioned and many others have mentioned, there have been many people who have
who have been killed and injured by trucks and cars.
One this week, unfortunately, she was actually just packing her bag and was hit by a truck on 34th Street.
You know, this was a kind of a really consistent reminder to us that infrastructure and safer streets protect cyclists from much larger vehicles.
I wanted to hone in on four particular proposals that we really support from the bills that were announced today.
First, banning Class 3 e-bikes.
20 is plenty, as everyone has mentioned.
I don't see why anyone should or would be against that.
Second, the trade-in program is an amazing idea.
People should be able to trade for compliant bikes or rentals towards safer bikes.
Third, dynamometers.
Same thing.
Game changer.
There are too many modified or Frankenstein bikes that are difficult to identify without the right testing equipment.
Safe riding starts with safe bikes.
And lastly, sidewalk detection.
Again, New York is the best city in the world.
We'd be happy to sit down with the relevant agencies and show them this proprietary sensor technology.
We've already been working on it and are very excited to roll it out to our entire fleet.
We think this can be a really important tool across the entire industry.
And with that, you know, we're really excited to see the city continue to move in the right direction from when we started our company five years ago to today.
You know, riding a bike is, you know, a million times easier.
I believe being a pedestrian is as important.
So thank you so much.
Thank you.
Alia.
