Renee Baruch testifies about being run over by an e-bike
Renee Baruch describes being hospitalized for a week after being run over by an e-bike in 2023, and calls for passage of Priscilla's Law for accountability.
My name is Renee Baruch, and although she's not present, I would thank the speaker for this opportunity to be heard.
In May 2023, I was run over by an e-bike.
This was the result.
The photograph you see was taken after surgery was performed on, which closed several cuts on my face.
The fractures had to heal on their own.
I was hospitalized for a total of a week, and I later had surgery to fix the damage to my cervical spine.
I was told that it was a delivery worker, but of course I don't know the identity, and I only regained consciousness once I was in the ambulance.
We have no means of identifying the driver of any motorized bike.
I was recently in Europe with a huge bicycle culture where there was no infrastructure, just a painted line.
And there were bike racks at all the railroad stations and outside of buildings.
But they all stopped for red lights and stop signs, and they obeyed the traffic rules.
Even as a casual observer, you know that it is not safe to cross a New York City street if you're in the crosswalk, if you have a green light.
Unless you first look both ways to make sure that something isn't still coming at you.
Thank God my vision remains intact.
No enforcement of any traffic laws is taking place, and you must pass Priscilla's Law Intro 802 as soon as possible.
Thank you for your testimony.
