Ronald Colangelo testifies on lack of action and accountability
Ronald Colangelo describes almost being hit by e-bikes on the sidewalk, criticizes the council for not passing Priscilla's Law, and asks how many meetings are needed before action.
Hello, my name is Ronald Colangelo, and I almost didn't make it here today.
One e-bike came towards me this way, so I sidestepped them, and then behind me I hear some tires screeching.
It's another e-bike.
They're on the sidewalk.
So what do you say?
You smile.
I didn't get hurt.
I listened to all these gentlemen explain about how hard it is for them to ride their bikes and how they're harassed by policemen and how they get hit by cars.
But not one of them talked about a policy.
What happens if they do hit somebody?
What is their policy?
Do they stay at the scene?
Do they call somebody?
Or do they leave?
None of that was discussed.
So they want to talk about getting hurt, but if they hurt somebody, what do they do?
What is their policy?
You don't hear it.
So I was here at the first Priscilla Law meeting.
A lot of you city councilmen are new.
A lot of them that were here at those meetings are gone.
So we're starting all over again.
And now we have all these other bills from here, from there, from here, from there.
And nothing gets passed.
So we sit here and we listen.
I was here at 9 o'clock.
A lot of these people are a little older.
And they had to go home.
They're exhausted from sitting here.
All the city councilmen asked the officers that were here, the captains, what are you doing about this?
What are you doing about that?
And now most of you are gone.
Most of these other people that were elderly that are banged up, that have pictures of them that you can't believe what happened to them when they got hit by the bike.
And you just say, how long is this process going to take?
How many meetings do you have to come to before the city council here takes action about anything?
And it's just sad.
And I'm very happy that you finally fixed the clock.
Well, I'm glad the clock is working.
And you guys are.
I will say that I appreciate your patience or impatience,
but really there have been a lot of folks here who have had to wait a long time, and I appreciate the concerns and appreciate the victims aspect of the story as well.
I appreciate your patience with us.
