Denis Ibric testifies for Carpenters union support
Denis Ibric of the New York City District Council of Carpenters supports the 100-12 Queens Boulevard proposal, citing affordable homes, revitalization above the 67th Avenue subway station, streetscape improvements, and constructive talks with Benenson about union carpentry.
Good afternoon, everyone.
My name is Dennis Ibrich.
I'm a council representative with the New York City District Council of Carpenters.
I'm here today to express our support for the 100-12 Queens Boulevard proposal and to recognize the constructive dialogue that has taken place throughout the process.
This is the kind of responsible development we need in New York City.
It will bring hundreds of new homes to Forest Hills, including permanent affordable housing, while revitalizing an underutilized site directly above the 67th Avenue subway station.
It will also bring improvements to the surrounding streetscape and new opportunities for local retail.
For us, responsible development is also about how a project is built and make sure the people building it have the opportunity to earn good and family-sustaining careers.
That's why I want to recognize Benison Capital for the way they have engaged with us.
From the beginning, our conversations have been open, respectful, and productive.
It has truly been a two-way street, and there has been real, genuine commitment to working together towards responsible union carpentry on this project.
We've made meaningful progress, and we look forward to continuing those conversations and reaching an outcome that brings skilled union carpenters on the job.
This is what responsible development should look like.
Investment in the community, quality housing, and a commitment to the skilled workforce that helps make these projects possible.
We appreciate Benison Capital's willingness to work with us, and we look forward to it.
continuing this partnership and delivering a project that Forest Hills can be proud of.
Thank you.
Thank you.
You may begin.
