Chair Gutiérrez asks about application numbers and waitlist

New York City Council · Oct 7, 2026 · starts 0:22:02 · 53 sec

Gutiérrez asks how many applications came after the main round. Liss explains all 5,700 were received in June, and hundreds more have joined waitlists since, with a rolling waitlist process.

Jennifer Gutiérrez

I want to just start by kind of

Jennifer Gutiérrez

setting the scene for, you know, a few months ago when you all started with the application process.

Jennifer Gutiérrez

You mentioned 5,700, you all received 5,700 applications.

Jennifer Gutiérrez

Can you, were these, how many of these applications came after the main round?

Emmy Liss

So all 5,700 applications were received in the month of June when applications were open.

Emmy Liss

And that is the pool of families from whom we made offers in August.

Emmy Liss

We have seen hundreds of families, in addition to those 5,700, add themselves to wait lists since June.

Emmy Liss

And we will have a rolling wait list process for 2K.

Emmy Liss

So families, as seats become available during the year, we know that with our youngest kids, there can often be mobility as families are making other changes in their lives.

Emmy Liss

We will continue to fill 2K seats if they become available.
