Chair Gutiérrez asks about budget for FY27 and FY28
Gutiérrez asks about the total budget for 2K. Liss says FY27 budget is $73 million from the state, and FY28 is projected at $425 million to serve 12,000 children.
I am going to ask a few more questions, and then I know we have a number of colleagues that have some questions, so then I'll come back.
I wanted to ask a little bit about the budget.
So let me just...
Okay.
Can you share what the total budget for 2K and FY27, not including the smaller, the birth to two program?
The total budget for FY27 is $73 million.
That's the total.
And that's the exact amount that's been allocated for the current 2K program.
Yes, it is.
For FY27 or FY27 and 28?
That is, that $73 million is for this fiscal year, also obviously maps to this school year.
That is the funding we received from the state to support the year one 2K launch.
Year one, okay.
We are projecting that 2K for the 2027-2028 school year, fiscal year 28, that budget will grow to $425 million, which has similarly been committed to by the governor.
And that is a proposed expansion of seats are included?
Yes, the $425 million will allow us to serve 12,000 children next year.
So our 2,002K seats that we will have continuity on and an additional 10,000 seats that we plan to expand to next year.
Okay.
Does NYCPS, you all anticipate needing additional funding for this current fiscal year to fulfill the 2K program?
We anticipate that we will fully expend all of the funds for the budget and the $73 million for the current year.
Okay, so there's no anticipated increase in the November plan for this year?
No, not at this time.
Okay.
