Chair Gutiérrez asks about high quality programming definition
Gutiérrez asks how the administration defines high quality 2K programming. Phillips describes a holistic approach including educator qualifications, Teaching Strategies Gold assessments, and developmental screenings.
I wanted to ask on, you mentioned in one of your responses, high quality programming.
How can you define high quality 2K programming and what are kind of the standards and indicators you are looking at across school-based, center-based, and family child care networks?
So when we think about quality for our youngest learners, we are approaching that in a really holistic manner.
The first is thinking about that, the environment and the educators who are working with young children.
So what support, what qualifications, what experience do they have helps to inform their relationships, their developing secure attachment and strong
social-emotional development of the child.
And so that's one of the first things that we're looking at.
Additionally, we do have a robust plan where we are coupling the teaching strategies, gold authentic assessments, which aligns with the curriculum that we're using.
in our 2K programs.
Finally, with our ages and stages developmental questionnaire to make sure that we are identifying any delays and referring children for supports as soon as
we're able to connect with the families and the children.
So it's a really holistic approach to thinking about quality and we can
report out on as the year progresses, what we're learning from our 2K sites and how the classrooms as well as, you know, our division is using that to strengthen our support.
