Chair Gutiérrez asks Allison about organizing and state budget
Gutiérrez asks Allison about organizing efforts in a non-election year. Allison says parents are excited and optimistic, and want their neighbors and families to stay in New York.
And Allison, you've been organizing.
You've been up in Albany as well.
What are New Yorkers United for Child Care?
How are you all thinking about a non-election year for the state budget and fighting for universal child care?
What are those conversations you're having?
With parents.
With parents.
Well, they're so excited and so optimistic because of how much we've been able to do over the past few years.
I mean, when we first got started, my family didn't know if we were going to get a 3K seat.
We thought it was going to get cut.
And now we're looking at expansion to younger kids.
And, you know, the hope that it's bringing to families, it's amazing.
And truly, it has been life-changing for folks.
So we're really excited to do more, not just, like, for themselves.
Like, some of our parents are getting, like, their kids are getting older.
But they want their neighbors to stay and their families to stay, especially folks who, like, are, you know, born and raised here in New York.
They don't know if they can stay here.
Because of the cost.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Thank you.
