Liss outlines vision for universal child care and state funding
Liss describes Mayor Mamdani's vision for universal child care and the $1.2 billion state commitment, including $73 million for 2K's first year and $425 million for the second year to expand to 12,000 seats.
Mayor Mamdani ran for office on a vision of universal child care, a city in which every child under five has access to free, full-day, high-quality early care and education
in a range of culturally competent settings with caregivers and educators who are trained, respected, and fairly compensated.
On just day eight of this administration, the mayor stood with the governor as she committed over $1.2 billion to New York City to put us on a path to universal child care.
Within that $1.2 billion commitment was the funding to launch 2K, the city's first universal early care and education program for two-year-olds.
The governor committed $73 million for the program for the first year, with a goal of serving at least 2,000 children this fall.
and $425 million for the second year with a goal of expanding by 10,000 seats to serve a total of 12,000 children in fall 2027.
The mayor and governor have made the shared commitment that we will reach every two-year-old in New York City that wants to participate by the end of the mayor's first term in the fall of 2029.
We are committed to delivering 2K to all New Yorkers because of the tremendous benefit it will bring to children, families, educators, and our city.
