Council Member Farias Supports Hindu American Awareness Month Resolution
Farias speaks in support of Resolution 646, declaring October as Hindu American Awareness and Appreciation Month, and also supports Resolution 458A for Little Yemen cultural district.
Be as lenient into our majority leader.
Thank you.
I'm always happy to uplift the cultures and communities that make New York City extraordinary and to bring that appreciation into chamber through advancing Resolution 646 today, declaring October as Hindu American Awareness and Appreciation Month.
Hindu New Yorkers have helped build the neighborhoods we represent, care for our families, educate our children, and sustain our local businesses.
Their faith and traditions deserve recognition in the people's house.
Our Hindu communities carry distinct histories, including families with roots in South Asia and the Caribbean.
This month gives us an opportunity to celebrate that rich heritage and deepen our understanding of neighbors whose contributions we encounter every day.
I want families to see traditions they preserve at home celebrated by the city they help sustain.
I want the next generation to grow up proud of that heritage with their government standing beside them against religious prejudice.
And I'm happy to help create that recognition today.
Additionally, I fully support Councilmember Aldebal's resolution, Reso 458, in designating Little Yemen as a cultural district in the Bronx.
And I thank my council colleagues and co-sponsors for advancing these resolutions, and I encourage all my colleagues to vote yes.
Well done.
Two seconds on the clock.
Thank you, Councilmember Farias.
