Council Member Joseph Introduces Intro 1111 on Medicaid Reimbursement for School Services
Joseph introduces Intro 1111, requiring the NYC Public Schools to report quarterly on Medicaid reimbursement for services to students with disabilities, to ensure transparency and recover funds.
I am glad to introduce Intro 1111.
Thank you.
Every year, our school provides speech therapy, occupational therapy, counseling, nursing, and transportation to thousands of students with disabilities.
Many of those services qualify for Medicaid reimbursement, federal and state dollars that belong in our classroom.
But right now, we cannot answer a simple question.
How much of that money are we collecting, and how much are we leaving on the table?
This bill requires the New York City Public School to report quarterly by borough and by district on how many services were delivered, how many were claimed, how many were reimbursed,
and where the gaps are, whether it's missing paperwork, consent forms, or missed deadlines.
It'll also ask a question families have been asking for years.
Are students receiving the services their IEPs require?
Every dollar we recover is a dollar for our kids.
Right now, hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers are at risk of losing Medicaid eligibility.
Making these dollars...
is that much more critical.
Far too many students with disabilities fall through the cracks.
Transparency is how we fix this pipeline.
I urge my colleagues to support this bill.
Also, thank you.
